Obituary for Paul Smith

Paul Earnest Smith, born on December 2, 1935, in Columbus, Ohio, peacefully passed away at his Worthington Christian Village residence on April 22, 2024. Paul was a proud graduate of the Ohio State University and dedicated his career to serving the community through his work in the Treasurer's Office with the Columbus Board of Education until his well-deserved retirement. He was a devoted family man survived by his loving children Kevin D Smith (spouse Michael Woody) and Susan M Smith-Burrows (spouse David Burrows), as well as his granddaughter Lauren Woody, and granddog Cooper. Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carolyn A Smith. Paul's passion for model railroads was evident to all who knew him, and he was an active member of the Columbus Ohio Model Railroad Club, where he found joy in sharing his enthusiasm with others. He also served his community as a valued member and Board chair of the EducationFirst Credit Union. A man of faith, Paul was a founding member and Board President of the Tree of Life Christian School and a dedicated member of several churches, including Linden Church of Christ, Northeast Church of Christ, and Worthington Church of Christ, where he served on various leadership boards, embodying his commitment to his spiritual community. Paul's memory will be cherished by all who knew him, including his surviving brother-in-law Dick Bowers, Dick's wife Patricia, and their extended family to include their daughter Deborah Bowers, their son Trent Bowers, Trent’s wife Doreen Bowers, and four grandchildren Peyton, Campbell, Riley, and Isaiah. He is also survived by nieces and nephews in Texas and the Pacific Northwest, as well as dear neighbors and friends Carol Haber, Mark Fields and John Okuley. His legacy of service, love for family, and passion for his hobbies will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
