18 August: “All,
Just had a long conversation with Geri Doeblein. Most of you should remember her... Nice lady up in Westerville, retired nurse and owner operator of the Unprototype and Scenicked Harbor RR. She joined Division 6 back in the late 80's when we were in the planning stages for the Discoverail '92 Convention and has remained a member ever since and still is. Her layout is a clinic on Campell structure kits. I think she’s built just about every one of them along with a few other craftsman type kits beautifully done on her layout. Even when she lost her husband, Ernie 10 years ago, she continued to do as she could opening up her layout for some conventions and tours. Her health has taken a downturn and things aren’t hopeful. They say the power of prayer can be a strong thing... I have to believe that, after going thru everything that I've been thru since last November. I was on more peoples prayer lists than you could shake a stick at..
Geri is at home and is in Hospice care, and when the time comes will go with Palliative care. She’s in decent spirits right now and I think, accepted the inevitable and getting everything in order. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers...as you never know, miracles do sometimes happen. I’m sure she would appreciate cards (sorry, she doesn't do email or computers for that matter). I’m going to try and get a small group together to go visit with her some afternoon or evening. Much will depend on how she’s feeling as she has more bad days than good ones.”
